PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having high smoothness, excellent electromagnetic transducing characteristics and excellent durability after preservation in a condition of high temperature and high humidity and nearly free from edge damage after a running durability test and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium has a cured layer having a silsesquioxane structure and at least one magnetic layer formed by dispersing a ferromagnetic powder in a binder on a non-magnetic supporting body. The manufacturing method of the magnetic recording medium includes a step for applying a layer containing a silsesquioxane compound having a radiation curing group, a step for forming the cured layer having the silsesquioxane structure by curing the layer containing the silsesquioxane compound having the radiation curing group by irradiation with a radiation and a step for applying a magnetic liquid formed by dispersing the ferromagnetic powder in the binder.
