<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an excessive temperature rise of a reactor container for a long period, and to prevent an active reaction caused by core melt, when the core melt flows out to the outside of the reactor pressure vessel. <P>SOLUTION: This reactor pressure vessel 2 which is supported by an approximately cylindrical pressure container support pedestal 3, is equipped on a lower part with a lower dry well 5 and a hopper 9, and stores a core 4 inside. If such a severe accident that the core 4 is melted and flows out to the outside of the reactor pressure vessel 2 happens by any change, the hopper 9 receives the core melt so as not to be scattered and guides it downward. The floor surface of the lower dry well 5 is equipped with a core catcher 10 for holding the core melt dropping from the hopper 9. A cooling water channel for circulating and supplying water in a pressure suppression pool 7 is provided in a clearance between the side wall surface and the floor surface of the lower dry well 5 and the side surface and the bottom surface of the core catcher 10. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
