<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently and inexpensively melting an Mo-containing steel using a spent Mo-containing catalyst used upon the desulfurization treatment of petroleum. <P>SOLUTION: Regarding the method for melting an Mo-containing steel utilizing a spent catalyst, a spent Mo-containing catalyst used upon the desulfurization treatment of petroleum is dissolved into a molten iron, next, the molten iron is subjected to desulfurization treatment, thereafter, the molten iron is charged to a converter, and is subjected to oxygen blowing, and a molten steel containing Mo as an alloy component is melted from the molten iron.
