PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recording apparatus with a detachable waste ink tank, which enables a time for replacing the waste ink tank to be delayed in comparison with in ordinary cases, immediately before the waste ink tank becomes full of waste ink. SOLUTION: An alarm about a state in which the ink tank shortly becomes or has became full of the waste ink is issued depending on the result of the comparison of the quantity of the waste ink with the capacity of the ink tank. In the state in which the ink tank becomes full of the waste ink, printing operations are stopped. The inkjet recording apparatus includes a waste-ink quantity reducing operation mode of discharging the ink into the waste ink tank by makes the quantity of the waste ink per time smaller than the normal quantity of the waste ink per time. The inkjet recording apparatus also includes a normal operation mode of discharging the ink into the waste ink tank by making the quantity of the waste ink per time set to the normal quantity of the waste ink per time. The inkjet recording apparatus includes an operation-mode selecting means which enables the waste-ink quantity reducing operation mode or the normal operation mode to be selected before the waste ink tank becomes full of the waste ink.
