PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detector capable of detecting the present position of a member to be detected without being complicated and enlarged. SOLUTION: The position detector for detecting the position of the detection object to be detected includes: two photo-interrupters 109a, 109b which are integrally provided with a detection object 101 two-dimensionally moving in a plane and adjacently juxtaposed; and one light shielding plate 111 for controlling the light amount passed through each of slit parts 203a and 203b corresponding to the state of intrusion into the slits between the light luminous parts and the light receiving parts. The light shielding plate is provided with end plates 111a and 111b which are intersecting while tilting in different angles to the respective slit parts of the two photo-interrupters.
