PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool having both of abrasion resistance and chipping resistance. SOLUTION: This cutting tool includes a base material having a hard phase 1 at least essentially composed of one or more kinds selected from a group consisting of carbide, nitride and carbonitride of 4, 5 and 6 group metals in a periodic table and any one of titanium carbonitride or tungsten carbide, and a bonding phase 3 mainly composed of iron group metal, and a coating layer formed on a surface of the base material.
