PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ear thermometer and a control method thereof without generating errors in the result of measurement of body temperature by detecting the state in which a probe cover is attached to a probe or the state in which the probe cover is not attached to the probe and correcting the value based on the detection. SOLUTION: The ear thermometer has the probe 3 with a built-in temperature detection element 21 for detecting the environment temperature and a built-in infrared detection element 22 for detecting infrared rays radiated from a temperature measuring region inside the ear cavity, and measures the body temperature. The ear thermometer also includes the probe cover 10 detachably attached to the probe, a detection switch 60 for detecting that the probe cover is detached from or attached to the probe, and temperature conversion coefficients 52a and 52b for correcting the body temperature based on the result of detection by the two detection elements.
