A method and an apparatus for generating a DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) application format are provided to identify the DMB contents and describe characteristics of the DMB contents to allow users to efficiently use the DMB contents. A method for generating a DMB application format includes a step of generating meta data with respect to DMB contents and a step of combining the meta data and the DMB contents. The meta data includes copyright information on the meta data, user information on users who use the DMB contents, and package table information which describes packages related to the DMB contents.
