PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suitably execute retrieval of information even with limited resources. SOLUTION: A retrieving device stores a word list obtained by extracting at least one word (character string) included in a plurality of document files (files). Identification numbers (word identification numbers) for uniquely specifying each of the words are imparted to words included in the word list. Also, the retrieval device stores a presence/no presence information list in which the presence/no presence of words included in the word list is described with the value of "1" or "0" about each document file. The presence/no presence information of each document file is described in block units in the presence/no presence information list. The retrieval device specifies the identification information of the words included in the retrieval character string, and refers to the presence/no presence information corresponding to the identification number to specify the document file including the retrieval character string.
