A user terminal [12] and method for suppressing interference associated with receiving data, via a wireless channel, from multiple antennas [14, 16] of a transmitter of interest [10]. The user terminal [12] includes an antenna [98] configured to receive an information carrying signal including at least two vectors transmitted from the transmitter of interest [10], and a processor [90] configured to generate first and second vectors, each associated with a corresponding one of the two transmitted vectors, to generate a covariance matrix [R] based on the generated first and second vectors, to process the covariance matrix [R] to have four block elements, the four block elements including first to four matrices, the third matrix being the complex conjugate of the second matrix with opposite sign and the fourth matrix being the complex conjugate of the first matrix, and to jointly decode the first and second vectors based on an inverse of the covariance matrix [R<SUP>-1</SUP>], to reproduce the data within the received information carrying signal. |
