The method involves switching off a branch (ZW3) of a network. A measuring point (MS1) is selected downstream to a switching off point in the branch. An audio-frequent measuring current is fed into a earth fault-afflicted conductor against earth, at the point and checking is made for which of branches guided from the point for conducting the measuring current using an inductive sensor (INS) that is arranged at an end of a pole, which is isolated and held by hand .
