Expression of protein kinase C-interacting cousin of thioredoxin (PICOT) in heart cells can be used to treat heart failure. PICOT's upregulation in response to hypertrophic stimuli suggests that the putative protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitor constitutes a negative feedback circuit.
