<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a floatation device of expansion type capable of being collapsed including a coilable spring and a flexible panel. <P>SOLUTION: The collapsible floatation device can take an uncollapsed configuration and a collapsed configuration. The device is coiled round itself when folded up so as to accomplish the collapsed configuration, and includes a spring 18 biased toward the non-coiled portion. The spring is arranged along the periphery of this device and in a pocket formed alongside the periphery of a panel 11 fabricated from a soft material, or installed on the perimeter of the device. One or more inflatable chambers 20 to be inflated for generating a buoyancy are provided inside the pocket.
