MANUFACTURING METHOD OF OPTICAL FILM, OPTICAL FILM, POLARIZING PLATE, AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of stably manufacturing an optical film having an optical anisotropic layer formed by utilizing a liquid crystal composition without trouble of opacification or the like while keeping thin thickness.

SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the optical film at least includes a process of preparing a coating solution by dissolving and/or dispersing a mesomorphism compound in a solvent and a process of applying the coating solution onto the surface of a first optical anisotropic layer containing non-liquid crystalline polymer to form a second optical anisotropic layer on the first optical anisotropic layer. The solvent used for preparing the coating solution is chosen from solvents satisfying an expression (1): ▵Re(550)≤5 nm and an expression (2): ▵Rth(550)≤10 nm when only the solvent is applied to the surface of the first optical anisotropic layer.
