PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of forming a fiber Bragg grating having high accuracy with which manufacturing cost is reduced and lead time is shortened by forming a fiber Bragg grating without giving a removing process to an optical fiber, and to provide an apparatus for manufacturing the fiber Bragg grating. SOLUTION: The fiber Bragg grating is formed by irradiating an optical fiber with interfered solid laser light having wavelength of from 300 to 360 nm. Particularly, such elements as germanium, tin, aluminum, bismuth or the like having absorption effect to the solid laser light are added to the core of the optical fiber by 10 mol% or larger and the core is irradiated with the solid laser light with a power of 50 W/cm<SP>2</SP>or larger.
