PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device of a hand guide roller, which weakens a safety-lever gripping operation force by reducing the rattle of an advance/retreat lever in a neutral position. SOLUTION: This safety device 14 comprises: a pushing member 15 which linearly moves in synchronization with the safety lever 14; a pair of members 16A and 16B to be pushed, which is provided integrally with the advance/retreat lever 6 in such a manner as to sandwich a rotating shaft 6a of the advance/retreat lever 6 in between, and the one and the other of which are each positioned to the pushing member 15 when the advance/retreat lever 6 is in an advance or retreat position; and an urging member 17 for constantly urging the pushing member 15 toward the members 16A and 16B to be pushed.
