PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystalline polyester fiber improved in abrasion resistance without impairing the characteristics of fabrics comprising the liquid crystalline polyester fiber obtained by solid phase polymerization, with high tenacity, high modulus and high heat resistance inherent therein, in producing the liquid crystalline polyester fiber, particularly to provide the liquid crystalline polyester fiber having excellent properties, small in single-fiber fineness, and also in the form of monofilament. SOLUTION: A method for producing the liquid crystalline polyester fiber comprises making a heat treatment of a liquid crystalline polyester fiber at a temperature at or higher than an endothermic peak temperature (Tm<SB>1</SB>)+10°C observed when measured under the condition of raising temperature from 50°C at a rate of 20°C/min in differential calorimetry.
