A metallic nonwoven fabric, made of iron, comprising fine metal fibers having a fiber diameter of 30 mu m or less, which fabric is free from rusting, reduction in brazing quality, and deterioration in bending performance. The metallic nonwoven fabric is made of iron and has an iron oxide layer on the surface of the metal fibers. The metal fibers have an oxygen content not less than 0.02 wt. % and not more than 0.8 wt. %. The metallic nonwoven fabric is manufactured by the following method: First, iron is coated on the surface of the fibers of a carbon nonwoven fabric by electroplating. Second, heat treatment for removing the carbon nonwoven fabric and for sintering the iron is carried out at a temperature not less than 930 DEG C and not more than 1,350 DEG C in a furnace filled with an atmospheric gas containing a reducing gas, having a dew point of water vapor not less than -40 DEG C and not more than 50 DEG C. |
