An apparatus and a method for ship ballast water examination using an image process are provided to minimize damage due to ship ballast water by precisely detecting whether the ballast water complies with a process standard. An apparatus for ship ballast water examination using an image process comprises a first sample water storage unit(110), a collecting unit(120), a second sample water storage unit(130), a sample detecting unit(140), an image unit(150), and an image process unit(160). The first sample water storage unit stores the sample water for measuring animal plankton from purified ballast water. The collecting unit collects the animal plankton included in the first sample water storage unit. The second sample water storage unit connected to the first sample water storage unit stores the sample water for measuring plant plankton. The sample detecting unit receives a predetermined amount of plant plankton sample included in the second sample water storage unit. The image unit photographs the animal plankton sample collected in the collecting unit and the sample placed on the sample detecting unit. The image process unit analyzes microorganism via an image process from the image photographed by the image unit.
