PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compression method and a restoration method for simultaneously transmitting various multimedia signals to each receiver so as to reduce traffics when one transmitter transmits signals to a plurality of receivers. SOLUTION: The signal compression method sets a compression sequence corresponding to a sequence pair to two arbitrary signal sequences (hereafter, sequences) having a sequence length of a set constant length. The signal compression method comprises: a compression sequence table creating processing for creating a compression sequence table indicating relationship between the sequence pair and the compression sequence; a sequence dividing process for dividing the first and second signal sequences into sequences with the sequence length, respectively, so as to extract an assembly of division sequence pairs of first and second division sequences; a division sequence pair empirical distribution deriving process for finding an empirical probability distribution of the division sequence pair; a compression part sequence determining process for determining a compression part sequence corresponding to the division sequence pair by referring to the empirical probability distribution corresponding to each of the distribution sequence pairs and the compression sequence table; and a compression sequence creating process for integrating the compression part sequences from the assembly of compression part sequences so as to create the compression sequence corresponding to the first and second sequences.
