PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gripping mechanism capable of securely gripping a commodity regardless of the size and the degree of hardness or softness of the commodity, and a vending machine having the gripping mechanism. SOLUTION: The gripping mechanism 1 has a common base 10; a finger base guide 20 secured to the common base 10; a pair of finger bases 30a, 30b capable of translation as they are guided by the finger base guide 20; a pair of constant-force springs 40a, 40b connected respectively to the pair of finger bases 30a, 30b; a constant-force spring translation means 50 installed on the common base 10 for causing translation of the pair of constant-force springs 40a, 40b; and fingers 60a, 60b installed respectively on the pair of finger bases 30a, 30b.
