PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-starting type permanent magnet synchronous electric motor having sufficient accelerating performance at the drop of power voltage or at the increase of load torque, and a compressor using the same. SOLUTION: In the self-starting type permanent magnet synchronous electric motor including a stator with a stator winding, a basket-shaped winding and a permanent magnet provided to a rotor core, a torque component generated by the basket-shaped winding reaches its maximum at one within a slip value range of 0 to 1.
