The present invention refers to the use of water soluble compounds at different concentrations, such as methanolic and ethanolic resin water soluble extracts from Larrea tridentata useful as organic and environmentally harmless bactericides or bacteriostatics, which prevent or cure pathogen diseases caused by bacteria attacking humans, animals, raw and processed food, as well as any other food product capable of being infected. Depending on the product to be treated and the pathogen microorganisms to be controlled, an improved antibacterial effect may be achieved using water soluble extracts from the L. tridentata resin, compared to the effect obtained using commercial synthetic antibiotics, which are not efficient any more since bacteria have generated resistance to said pharmaceutical products. The inventive extracts may be used as antiseptics and/or disinfectants, the same being only apply in liquid or powder form, or as part of a formulation wherein further natural or botanic prod ucts may be added, such as extracts and essential oils from Lippia graveolens, Lippia berlandieri, Agave lecheguilla, Flourensia cernua leaves and further plants having antimicrobial effects. According to the disinfection level achieved by the L. tridentata extracts, said extracts may be classified in an intermediate degree since the same have shown to inhibit the growth and destruction of bacteria and microbacteria.
