PURPOSE:To provide a roll with which a thin sheet having a substantially flat sheet thickness is produced without cracking in the titled roll of which the body is cooled from the inside by reducing the thickness of the roll body and ribbing the inside side surface thereof. CONSTITUTION:Plural reinforcing ribs 7 are provided to the inside side surface 1a of the roll body 1 of a hollow water cooled roll which contacts with a molten metal 6 so as to extend in the peripheral direction. End plates or flanges 2 are fitted to both ends of the body 1 and are bolted 8 to prevent water leakage. The ribs 7 can be provided by machining or welding, etc. and the length thereof may be different or the same. The shape thereof may be rectangular or else. The wall thickness of the body 1 is made thin, for example, about 3mm. The accuracy of the sheet thickness is improved and the substantially flat sheet thickness is obtd. in a cast state and in the succeeding stage if the thin steel sheet is continuously cast directly from the molten metal 6 by a twin roll method using such hollow water cooled roll. The surface temp. of the sheet is made uniform and the partial delay in solidification and the cracking at a high temp. are entirely obviated. |
