PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molding tool which enables formation of a solid ink stick having good height control and steady shape. SOLUTION: The molding tool for molding the solid ink stick 30 comprises a receptacle 104 having at least one side wall to define a cavity for storing a molten phase change ink material and an inner surface which plugs the opening of the cavity of the receptacle 104 and at least partially surrounds the cavity 110. The surrounded cavity comprises a lid 108 which conforms to at least part of the outside shape of the ink stick. At least one of the at least one side wall of the receptacle 104 and the inner surface of the lid 108 has a flexible structure so that at least partially solidified ink stick can be easily removed from the cavity.
