PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing copolyester fibers which have more improved staining resistance and water resistance, especially largely more improved restaining resistance and blackening resistance, than those of the same kind of conventional fibers. SOLUTION: This method for producing the copolyester fibers is characterized by treating fibers comprising a copolyester containing a polyalkylene terephthalate as a main constituting component and copolymerized with a polyether component at the terminals of the polyester and further copolymerized with a specific metal organic sulfonate such as sodium 3,5-dicarbomethoxybenzenesulfonate, with a water-soluble salt of a metal selected from nickel, manganese and barium to replace the metal of the metal sulfonate in the copolymer by nickel, manganese and barium.
