PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular magnetic recording head which can precisely specify the throat height with the resist layer, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: This perpendicular magnetic recording head has a main pole layer and a return yoke layer stacked with a magnetic gap layer in between on the surface facing the recording medium, and a resist layer having a front end at a position retreated to the inside from the surface facing the recording medium in the height direction, specifies the throat height of the return yoke layer in this front end position. Further, a non-transparent Ti film is formed right beneath the resist layer at least as a part of the magnetic gap layer not to pass light. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
