A method and a system for establishing a security association in a broadband wireless communication system based on multi-hop are provided to guarantee message integrity by performing end-to-end security and hop-by-hop authentication processes. A system for establishing a security association in a broadband wireless communication system based on multi-hop includes a security association unit(615), a controller(611), and a key derivation unit(613). The security association unit establishes a security link with a base station. The controller collects information for deriving keys from the security association unit and provides the information to the key derivation unit. The key derivation unit collects the information for deriving the keys from the controller and derives the key for SA(Security Association). The key for SA is a base station-relay CMAC(Cipher-based Message Authentication Code) and an inter-relay CMAC.
