PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk unit and method for controlling the same which can reliably eject a disk with a simple configuration even if an outer surface of the disk such as a label is abnormal. SOLUTION: The disk unit comprises a disk insertion slot for inserting and ejecting the disk D, a drive unit 40 for reproducing the disk, and a loading roller 21 for transporting the disk D between the reproducing position at which reproduction can be performed by the drive unit 40 and the ejecting position at which the disk can be ejected from the disk insertion slot apart from the drive unit 40. The drive unit 40 has a turn table for rotating the disk D, and a control unit 100 for directing a loading motor M1 to transport the disk D to the reproduction position when the disk D with the peeled or isolated label cannot be ejected, and directing a spindle motor M2 to rotate the disk D in order that the peeled or isolated label comes to a position opposite to the disk insertion slot or a distant position.
