PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an inquiry time when an unused data is voluminous, in order to transfer only data used in subsequent processing from a database operation server to a front-end server, in a parallel database system. SOLUTION: This database management method is composed of a server serving as a front end for an inquiry to a database, and the plurality of database operation servers for executing an operation for the database, and the front-end server is connected to the database operation servers via a network. Only positional information of a data is replied from the database operation server to the front-end server, in a retrieval inquiry executed in advance. The positional information is transferred via a variable in a subsequent inquiry. A sub-data is extracted based on the transferred positional information and dictionary information of the position of each sub-data within the data, in the subsequent inquiry.
