PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device capable of achieving simplification, miniaturization and reduction of cost of structure and making illuminance irregularity of a video image projected to a screen small. SOLUTION: The projection type display device 1 is equipped with a lens means 4 condensing light emitted from a light source system 3, a pillar type optical element 5 uniformizing intensity distribution of the condensed light and outputting the light, a reflection type light valve 2 irradiated with the uniformized light, and a projection optical system 7 enlarging and projecting an image displayed on the reflection type light valve 2. The lens means 4 has a first condensing lens 4R and a second condensing lens 4R arranged in the longitudinal direction of a cross section orthogonal to the optical axis C of the pillar type optical element 5, and the first condensing lens 4L and the second condensing lens 4R have the same radius of curvature, and arranged symmetrically with the optical axis C of the pillar type optical element 5 as center, and the eccentric position of the first condensing lens 4L is on the second condensing lens 4R side from the optical axis C, and the eccentric position of the second condensing lens 4R is on the first condensing lens 4L side from the optical axis C.
