PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of an olefinic polymer, realizing high activity and a high cyclic olefin incorporation ratio, as compared to a conventional polymerization catalyst for a cyclic olefin. SOLUTION: The method produces an olefin polymer which contains, as an essential ingredient, a 4-30C cyclic olefin (C) represented by general formula (I) (wherein e is an integer of 0-20; R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>8</SP>may be the same or different from each other and are each an atom or a group selected from a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group, a halogenated hydrocarbon group, a silyl group-substituted hydrocarbon group, and a hydrocarbon group-substituted silyl group; and two groups selected from groups represented by R<SP>3</SP>-R<SP>8</SP>may be bonded so as to form a ring together with carbon atoms to which the two groups bond).
