PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent device having a high luminous efficiency and a high durability, to be driven by a low voltage. SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent device comprises at least one organic compound layer including an emitter layer containing a luminescent material between a pair of electrodes. The organic compound layer contains a sulfoxide compound of a cyclic structure. The sulfoxide compound is a sulfonyl compound synthesized according to reaction of the figure.
