PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and low manufacturing cost optical module that not only reduces the distance between a light receiving element and waveguide but also achieves the simplified structure and easy mounting. SOLUTION: The optical module A includes a circuit board 2 on which the light receiving element is mounted and a waveguide board 4 on which the waveguide 3 is disposed. The circuit board 2 made of a flexible material is provided with the transmissivity. A circuit pattern portion 5 is formed on a surface of one side of the circuit board 2, and the light-receiving element 1 is flip chip mounted on the circuit pattern portion 5 by a bump 6. An optical filter portion 7 made of a dielectric multilayer film is formed on the other side of the circuit board 2. The light-receiving element 1 has a light receiving layer 1a disposed on the outside of the region on which the circuit pattern portion 5 is formed. An end of the waveguide 3 of the waveguide board 4 is optically coupled to the light receiving layer 1a of the light-receiving element 1 via the optical filter portion 7 and circuit board 2.
