PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a resorcin diester-based compound by reacting resorcin with a divalent carboxylic acid halide. SOLUTION: The method for producing the resorcin diester-based compound includes (a) a step (esterification step) of reacting the resorcin with a carboxylic halide at -20 to 50°C in the presence of a basic compound in an organic solvent substantially immiscible with water, (b) a step (water-washing step) of extracting and removing a salt between a basic material by-produced in the esterification step and a hydrogen halide to an aqueous phase by the contact with the water, (c) a step (oligomer-decomposing step) of carrying out heat treatment at 105 to 140°C, and (d) a step (isolation step) of precipitating the reaction product by bringing the reaction mixture obtained at the step (c) into contact with water, to prepare the product as a solid by a solid-liquid separation operation followed by drying.
