PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device which appropriately corrects wide-angle distortion of a picked up image. SOLUTION: A digital camera 10 is equipped with a distortion correction unit 62, which comprises a focal length evaluation unit 64, a distortion evaluation unit 65 and a distortion generation unit 63. The focal length evaluation unit 64 evaluates a focal length of an imaging lens 17 and based on the focal length, the distortion evaluation unit 65 evaluates wide-angle distortion and a degree of the distortion generated in the image. Based on the evaluations of the wide-angle distortion and degree of the distortion, the distortion correction unit 62 selects a proper factor from a distortion correction factor table 60 or a wide-angle distortion correction factor table 62. Then, using the factor selected, the distortion correction unit 62 applies a coordinate transformation which generates the same image distortion as positive or negative distortion in the distortion generation unit 63, thereby appropriately correcting the wide-angle distortion or distortion of the image.
