PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silica-based hollow particle dispersion material and a method for producing the material having excellent dispersibility in an organic solvent, and to provide silica-based hollow particles. SOLUTION: The method for producing a silica-based hollow particle dispersion material includes steps of: (a) subjecting a dispersion material including calcium carbonate particles and a first organic solvent to hydrolysis condensation with at least one kind of compound expressed by general formula (1):Si(OR<SP>1</SP>)<SB>4</SB>, wherein R<SP>1</SP>represents a monovalent organic group, and at least one kind of compound expressed by general formula (2):R<SP>2</SP>Si(OR<SP>3</SP>)<SB>4-d</SB>, wherein each of R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>independently represents a monovalent organic group and d represents an integer of 1 to 3, to form a silica-based coating layer coating the calcium carbonate particles; (b) partially or entirely removing calcium carbonate from the calcium carbonate particles having the silica-based coating layer formed thereon; (c) compacting the silica-based coating layer to obtain silica hollow particles; and (d) replacing the first organic solvent by a second organic solvent.
