PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and speedily delete a character intended by a user. SOLUTION: This character input device has: an operation display part 1 instructing input and editing of the character, and displaying the input character; and a control part 7 storing the character input from the operation display part 1, and making the operation display part 1 display it together with a cursor. When a BS key 12 is performed with long-time pressing from the operation display part 1, the control part 7 sequentially deletes the characters to a nearest punctuation mark with the cursor 1 as a basic point according to a continuance time of the long-time pressing.
