PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer capable of properly displaying its battery residual information even during printing. SOLUTION: The thermal printer which performs printing by a thermal head using battery as a power source is provided with a voltage gauging means which gauges the output voltage of battery, the residual quantity judging means which determines the battery residual quantity from the output voltage, a report means which reports the battery residual quantity determined by the residual quantity judging means and a holding means which holds predicted printing amount information representing a predicted printing amount. The residual quantity judging means determines the battery residual quantity from the output voltage during non-printing and determines the battery residual quantity from the predicted printing amount information and the output voltage, during printing.
