PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent damages to a lens barrel, even when a camera is dropped to the ground, in such a state with the lens barrel, such as a zoom lens barrel, extended from the camera housing. SOLUTION: The dropping protection device includes the lens barrel 3 that extends from the camera housing 2; a dropping resistance body 4 that is housed in the camera housing 2 and is formed into a shape such that has air resistance larger than that of the camera housing 2 by popping up outside the camera housing 2, while being connected with the camera housing 2; a dropping detecting means for detecting the dropping of the camera; and a control means for making the dropping resistance body to pop up from the camera housing, when detecting the dropping of the camera by the dropping detecting means. The dropping resistance body 4 is positioned so as to keep the dropping attitude of the imaging device 1 that prevents the lens barrel 3 from directly colliding with the ground, when it is being dropped.
