PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable long service life of an assembled battery by suppressing variation in charging state between single batteries. SOLUTION: A protection device includes an assembled battery consisting of a plurality of serially connected battery modules each having a plurality of serially connected secondary batteries, and a plurality of protective units each provided corresponding to each of the battery modules and operating using a corresponding battery module. The protective units each have a measuring section 22 for measuring current consumption of its own unit, a discharging section SW for discharging a corresponding battery module, and a control section 27 for controlling the discharging section so that the sum of the current consumption and the discharged current by the discharging section may be a constant value between the protective units.
