PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently find target data in a table used for half-tone processing. SOLUTION: Each of comparing circuits which are connected in series compares a center value of table data input from a prestage comparing circuit with a CMY gradation value. When the CMY gradation value is larger than the center value, table data larger than the center value are selected and output to a poststage comparing circuit. At this time, a result bit representing the result of the comparison is set to "1" and output. When the CMY gradation value is not larger than the center value to the contrary, table data not larger than the center value are selected and output to the poststage comparing circuit. At this time, the result bit is set to "0" and output. Lastly, result bits output from the respective comparing circuits are arranged in order from the most significant bit and output.
