PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power line communication system for reducing attenuation in a communication signal efficiently by minimizing a signal injection point by a communication cable and preventing the attenuation in the communication signal. SOLUTION: The power line communication system 1 performs communications with a power line as a signal transmission path, and comprises a power line network 5 having a trunk power line 3 extended from a distribution room 2 and a branch power line 4 branching from the trunk power line 3. A plurality of slave modems 9 are connected to the branch power line 4. A master modem 8 injects and extracts the communication signal to and from a communication cable 6 having more excellent transmission characteristics of the communication signal than the power line. There is a media converter 12 for relaying the communication signal between the communication cable 6 and the power line. The media converter 12 injects and extracts the communication signal at a position, where communication failure due to signal attenuation does not occur at the base and end portions of the branch power line 4 associated with signal attenuation.
