PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor laser device that can be manufactured easily, without degrading the reliability of operations, even when it is stored or operated under a high-temperature/high-humidity environment, and provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: A semiconductor laser device is provided with reflectance control films 7 and 8 that are provided to the end surface of the semiconductor laser device body, excluding element isolation parts 11 that are both end parts of the end surface and comprise at least one or more layers of dielectric films; and surface protecting films 9 and 10 that cover the element isolation parts 11 and the reflectance control films 7 and 8 on the end surface.
