This device comprises a main jack 4 and an auxiliary jack 8 acting between the chassis 3 and the platform 1 and arranged between the main jack 4 and the articulation pin 2 of the platform on the chassis. The auxiliary jack 8 has a short length and is greatly inclined with respect to the horizontal when the platform occupies its bottom position. It therefore acts in an efficient fashion during the initial phase for raising the platform, until the main jack itself acts with a significant lever arm. This arrangement makes it possible to avoid oversizing the main jack. <IMAGE>
