PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical splice that enables end surfaces of optical fibers to abut against each other at a prescribed position and can be reduced in cost. SOLUTION: A metal sleeve 10 in which an end portion of one optical fiber 17 and an end portion of the other optical fiber 18 to be connected thereto are made to abut against each other is stored in a housing 2. A movable member 6 is pivotally coupled to the other end portion of the housing 2 between an optical fiber insertable and visible position and a first optical fiber fixation position. A slider 7 is coupled to the other end portion of the housing 2 to slide in a crossing direction Dc crossing the length direction L of the housing 2, and when the slider 7 moves from the optical fiber insertable position to a second optical fiber fixation position along the crossing direction Dc, the end portion of the optical fiber 18 is sent to the end portion of the optical fiber 17.
