PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To absorb input torque by preventing the input torque caused by reverse rotation of an engine from overlapping with driving torque of a starter motor, in a constant-mesh type engine starting device. SOLUTION: This constant-mesh type engine starting device is provided by constant meshing a pinion gear 22 on the starter motor 20 side with a ring gear 12 on the engine 10 side, directly or via an intermediate gear, and has a shock absorber 30. This shock absorber 30 has a shock absorbing mechanism part 31 and a clutch mechanism part 40, and permits rotation of the starter motor 20 when starting the engine, and absorbs the input torque to the starter motor 20 side in response to its reverse rotation when the starter motor 20 is rotated in the inverse direction of engine starting time in response to the reverse rotation of the engine 10.
