PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wheel unit for a crane capable of running smoothly and stably when it moves along running rails a front and a rear traversing frame fitted with winches and also structured small and compact. SOLUTION: The wheel unit to move the winches along the left and right rails arranged at a certain spacing is equipped with saddle frames coupled with a lifting frame whereon the winches are mounted, a plurality of running wheels borne on the saddle frames, and a driving means to drive the running wheels. Each saddle frame is configured with a plurality of frame members coupled with the lifting frame and having a prescribed length along the running rails, wherein the frame members, (1) bear the respective running wheels in the fore-and-aft arrangement along the running rails, (2) are arranged so as to be in series fore and aft about the running direction along the running rails, and (3) are shaft coupled so that their end parts adjoining fore and aft to each other are rotatable in the vertical direction with respect to the tread surfaces of the rails.
