PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head having a magnetic pole film with a small coercive force, and especially, a perpendicular magnetic head and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: A recording element 100B supported by a slider 211 has a non-magnetic film 15 and a magnetic pole film 50. The non-magnetic film 15 has a recessed part 150, and there is an amorphous electrode film 13 used as a plating seed film. A magnetic pole film 14 grown by plating exists on the electrode film 13. The magnetic pole film 14 may be an electroplated film grown on an electrode film 14 whose maximum crystal grain size is 20 nm or below, or an electroless plated film.
