PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of washing a high purity polyarylate which reduces remaining colored substances and excels in transparency. SOLUTION: In the manufacturing step of a polyarylate of formula (1) (wherein R1 to R8 are each hydrogen or a 1-8C alkyl group and m/n is 80/20 to 20/80) formed by the interfacial polycondensation reaction of a divalent aromatic carboxylic acid halide with a dihydric phenol comprising a biphenyl structure and a bisphenol structure, the polyarylate is made into particles having a bulk density of 0.20-0.50 g/cm<SP>3</SP>in the step of manufacturing the polyarylate and thereafter washed with 200-500 mass% organic solvent relative to the polyarylate in the step of washing with an organic solvent, and then added with 3-10 mass% of water relative to the organic solvent before stopping agitation to manufacture the polyarylate.
